【can】
動詞の前において、動詞の意味を助ける働きをすることばを
助動詞という。助動詞の後には必ず動詞の原形が来る。
助動詞canは、
①「～することができる」 可能
②「～してもよい」 許可
の意味を表す。
She can play the piano very well.
I can see you tomorrow.
→私は明日あなたに会うことができる。
【may】
助動詞mayは
①「～してもよい」 許可 ←ここはcanと同じなんや
②「～かもしれない」 水量
You may sit down.
It may rain tomorrow.
※※※catとmayには「～してもよい」という許可の意味がある!!!!
これらの助動詞もwillと同様に、三人称単数でも動詞に-s、-esをつけない
He swims very fast.
He can swim very fast.
【must】
助動詞mustは、
①「～しなければならない」 義務、必要、命令
②「～に違いない」 推測
You must go now.
I must finish my homework.
She must be angry.
→彼女は怒っているに違いない。
【should】
助動詞shouldは、
「～するべきである」「～した方がいい」 義務
We should help each other.
You should see the movie.

※同じ義務を表す言葉でもshouldの方がmustより
柔らかいので日常会話でよく使われる。
【否定文】
may not 「～しないかもしれない」「～してはいけない」
must not 「～してはいけない」
※must not の方がmay not よりも強い禁止
He may not come.
彼はこないかもしれない
You may not eat the dessert yet.
あなたはまだデザートを食べてはいけない
You must not go there alone.
あなたは一人でそこへ行ってはいけない
【疑問文】
Can you play baseball?
May I sit down ?
Must I wait ?
【会話でよくつかう助動詞】
Will you open the door ?
ドアをあけてくれませんか？ 頼む
Shall I open the door ?
ドアをあけましょうか？ 申し出る
Shall we ～？で「一緒にしませんか？」という誘いかけの
意味を表す。
Shall we dance ?
Shall we play tennis ?
※Shall we は誘いかけの文なのでLet'sとほぼ同義
Will you open the door ?
ドアを開けてくれませんか?
Would you open the door ?
ドアを開けてくださいませんか？
→Would you の方が丁寧
＜Would like to + 動詞の原形＞で ～したい という
意味を表す決まった丁寧な言い方
I would like to see Mr.Jones.
ジョーンズさんにお会いしたいのですが
I'd like to go to the concert.
I'd は I would の短縮形
【be動詞のもう一つの意味】
be動詞には「いる」「ある」という存在の意味を表す使い方もある
The bag is on the table.
She is in Tokyo.
I was there last Sunday.
＜There is(are) ～ ＞で「～がある」という意味を表す決まった言い方になる。
There is a notebook on the desk.
There are twenty girls in my class.
↑このThereにそこにという意味はない。
※※※There is(are) の文は「不特定」のものがくるときにつかうので、
There is(are)の後に、theやthis、my、yourなどの言葉がくることはない。
× There is my bag on the desk.
○ There is a bag on the desk.
